Cyprus Holidays

Beautiful Cyprus – it is doubtful you will find a more perfect island in the Mediterranean. Just a 4 1/2 hour flight from the UK, in no time at all you will be sunning yourself on one of the stunning beaches with cocktail in hand or sitting around the pool sipping an ice cold locally brewed beer. However, when considering the ideal holiday destination, it is important to take into account the wishes of everyone who will be travelling with you, as each may want something different from their holiday. Whether it is a gorgeous sandy beach, great nightlife, watersports, golf, historical sites, self-catering or all inclusive – Cyprus, with its perfect all year round climate, has something for everyone.

Things to do and see in Cyprus

With so much to see and do on a holiday to Cyprus, you will be spoilt for choice. Visit Paphos, where you can see the Byzantine fort overlooking the harbour, or Limassol and its medieval castle. There is also an intriguing museum in Nicosia which houses the island’s top archaeological collection - or you can visit the painted Troödos churches, situated high in the mountains. After all that culture, take a trip to some of the wineries, three of which can be found near to Limassol’s old fishing port. Watersports also abound and an amazing place for scuba diving is the Zenobia, which sank in Larnaca harbour on its maiden voyage in 1980. It was towed and scuttled at its present location 1,500 yards offshore and still has more than 100 lorries chained to the deck, amidst a wonderful display of resident sea life.

Cyprus, with its great climate is a popular choice for everything from a last minute holiday to a romantic luxury honeymoon, no matter which month of the year you choose to go. However there are many events that you might like to factor in, such as the Limassol Carnival, held in February and March. The International Film Festival in April and the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in late May. Shakespeare at the Kourion amphitheatre in late June and the Paradise Jazz Festival, late July. The Limassol Wine Festival starts on August 30 and finally there is the Paphos Aphrodite Festival in September.

A Cyprus Beach Holiday – Spoilt for Choice

Whichever beach resort you prefer, there is a great choice of holidays from all inclusive, self catering or hotel accommodation. Paphos has 11 blue flagged sandy beaches and there are also several beautiful beaches a short distance away such as Coral Bay, Laourou, Dasoudi and Lara where there is a turtle sanctuary. If you fancy something a bit more energetic, there is horse riding close by, where you can ride through the Paphos forest. Also available is golf. The nightlife is wonderful with everything from great restaurants, bars and clubs. All tastes are catered for.

Limassol, which is the main tourist resort in Cyprus, has many beaches which are ideal for sunbathing and swimming. The beach in the Dasoudi area has many facilities available. Also don't forget to visit the Sayious Adventure Park – not just for the kiddies – great fun for all ages. Put the Fasouria Watermania Water Park on your list, as this is a great day out - and visit Kolossi Castle or the donkey sanctuary for something different. Nightlife, as you would expect, is superb and it is here that you will find the Dolce Club, probably the best in Cyprus.

Ayia Napa will definitely have you spoilt for choice, as there are 14 Blue Flag beaches. Most of them have lifeguards on duty during the day. There are also many facilities such as snack bars and watersports. The seas are crystal clear and the beaches golden sand and are considered amongst the finest in the Mediterranean. Apart from the beaches there is so much else to do. The nightlife is amazing, with something for all tastes and the shops provide a huge selection of goods, from the normal tourist needs to designer wear such as Calvin Klein, Lacoste and Gant.

Protaras has six beaches in total. With golden sands that shelve gently into the sea, it is very safe for children. Head out to Fig Tree Bay, which is the main beach, as here you will find plenty of watersports available. One of the largest outdoor markets in Cyprus is held in Protaras, where you can buy everything from handmade jewellery to fresh fruit. Then go on to Camel Park to experience the fun of riding a camel around the beautiful grounds. The nightlife again will not disappoint, with many bars and restaurants staying open until late morning.

Larnaca has several beaches, the most popular being Finikoudes. Here you will discover a full range of facilities, entertainment and beach activities. It is a lovely clean, sandy beach with a gentle incline into the water, so safe for children. A popular place to visit is Salt Lake, which is home to around 85 species of migratory water birds such as flamingos and situated close by is the holy site of Hala Sultan Tekke, which is well worth a visit.
