Bulgaria Holidays

Bulgaria is filled with little gems for the traveller. Friendly traditional villages where you can sample delicious food and age old recipes, charming monasteries such as Rila, modern vibrant cities such as Sofia, and of course magnificent golden beaches gently lapped by the clear waters of the Black Sea, are just some of Bulgaria’s generous offerings.

Stop off in Sofia

If visiting Bulgaria's capital, be sure to visit the the imposing Alexander Nevski Cathedral with its distinctive golden dome. It boasts of being one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world. Art lovers will enjoy whiling the hours away at the National Art Gallery with its over 50,000 examples of Bulgarian art. Maybe you'll have time to visit the Russian Church and National Historical Museum too.

Sightseeing in Bulgaria

For those wanting to venture a little further beyond the city, you could do no better than head for the slopes in Vitosha mountain and its associated nature park. Vitosha can be seen from Sofia making an impressive backdrop to the Bulgarian capital. One great thing about Vitosha is that it only lies 15 km away from the city, so it makes a great destination for a day trip if you're using the city as your base. You could be out in the middle of some of nature’s most impressive handiwork by day and sampling some of Sofia’s great nightlife by night. What a perfect balance! For another excursion away from Sofia, you might also like to walk the cobbled stoned streets of Koprivshtitsa. Protected by exquisite forests and tucked away in the mountains, this charming village offers some fantastic photographic opportunities and opens a window onto Bulgaria’s past.

Blugaria's Black Resorts

On the other hand you might simply want to enjoy a lazy beach holiday and do nothing more than lie in the sun and recharge your batteries. If just sitting by the pool and leaving the kids to enjoy themselves at one of the many kids clubs appeals, then there are some great deals on all inclusive holidays in Bulgaria that will meet your needs. Such places as Albena would be a good option with its incredible 5 km of beach made up of fine sands that are a delight to walk over. Then there is the holiday village Duni Royal Resort replete with a small harbour. This purpose made resort has all the usual offerings to make for a great beach holiday with plenty of bars, restaurants and discos.

A popular destination for those in search of sun, sea and sand is the recently modernised resort of Sunny Beach situated 35 km north of Burgas. Sunny Beach has a huge number of hotels to cater to all tastes, whether you're looking for an all inclusive or self catering option and is the place to go if you want plenty of lively bars and discos, great restaurants serving local dishes and world foods, and glitzy casinos. Sunny Beach is also popular if you're fond of water sports with options for water skiing, wind surfing and yacht trips. It is the largest resort in Bulgaria with a fantastic sized sandy beach, so there’s plenty of space to find yourself a spot to soak up the sun while bathing alongside the clear waters of the Black Sea. And it's not exclusively for the under 25s out for good time either, as there are plenty of cultural attractions such as traditional folk shows for those who want it.

There are in fact plenty of resorts along the Black Sea where you can enjoy a beach holiday such as Golden Sands, St Constantine and Helena, and Sunny Day. With all the package deals to Bulgaria you’re sure to find what you're looking for, and if you’re prepared to avail yourself of some of the late deals available you could pick up a cheap deal.

So visit Bulgaria on your next holiday. Just a few hours flight time from the UK, this Eastern European gem has come a long way as a highly attractive travel destination, and with great prices on food and drink you'll likely find your money goes a long way too.
