Arrecife Holidays

Lanzarote's vibrant capital is a great location to visit while enjoying your holiday on the famous Canary island. Whether you want to experience a sample of authentic Spanish culture, browse around the city's many historical buildings, photograph some landmarks and stroll around museums, or just want to spend the the day checking out the trendy shops for which Arrecife is well known, Lanzarote's capital is bound to satisfy you.

Beaches in Arrecife

The island's capital also has its very own beaches of fine white sands. The best one is Playa del Reducto with a lovely promenade that stretches across to Playa del Cable, the city's other beach. It is well serviced with plenty of food outlets and restaurants to grab a bite to eat between bathing sessions in the tranquil waters.

Castillo de San Jose

The Castillo de San Jose or International Museum of Contemporary Art may be of interest to history and art lovers alike. The building also doubles as a concert hall, and also has a fantastic bar and restaurant with stunning views across the harbour.

Traditional Markets

Hidden away just off the sea front between Leon y Castillo and Charco de San Ginés can be found La Recova Market with its craft stalls selling anything from handmade shoes to jewellery to pottery. Fresh and organic food is on offer at at the market between Monday and Friday, and Saturday morning is the time to sample the traditional handmade products and crafts at the various stalls. By the way, talking of San Ginés this area offers some of the best tapas bars in the city.

Castillo de San Gabriel

Situated on a tiny island called Islote de los Inglesses can be found the 16th century Castillo de San Gabriel which was given National Historic Monument status in 1972. The castle is home to a small ethnographic museum, and the walk across the causeway is well worth it even if it's only for the views across the Atlantic. You will walk across the iconic Puenta de las Bolas, or Bridge of the Balls (so called because atop its two columns can be seen two round balls), as you amble across the cobbled causeway.

Las Casa de Los Arroyo

The 18th century Las Casa de Los Arroyo houses the Blas Cabrera Scientific Centre or the Centro Cientifico Cultural, named after the physicist Blas Cabrera Felipe who was born in the city. The building is a fine example of old style architecture peculiar to Lanzarote's capital.
