Side Holidays

Located half way between the well-developed towns of Antalya and Alanya, picturesque Side is one of the most gorgeous resorts in the Turkish Mediterranean. Barely 50 years ago, Side was a sleepy fishing village only known to archaeologists and history buffs. Despite the tourist boom experienced by the village during the 1980s, Side has managed to retain its original character and to limit tourist development. In fact, moderation seems to be the defining characteristic of this resort: there are plenty of entertainment opportunities without turning the resort into a party hotspot, and the general atmosphere is lively without feeling overwhelming. Nestled between the sea and the stunning Turkish countryside, Side has something to offer to everyone.

Best time to visit Side

Like other beach resorts in the Turkish Riviera, Side is primarily a sun and beach destination. The tourist season runs between May and September, and during these months, average temperatures are almost always above 25°C. July and August are particularly hot, but even during those months a cool breeze keeps things in check. Tourists who visit Side in September and October usually enjoy sunny days and cooler temperatures, in addition to great discounts on flights and accommodation.

Where to Stay in Side

Side boasts an extensive range of accommodation options that cater to all types of tourists. The western side of town is lined with all inclusive resorts that are particularly good for those wishing to enjoy a cheap family holiday. Resort facilities include on-site waterparks, huge outdoor swimming pools, cocktail bars, in-room satellite TV, buffet-style restaurants, and fitness facilities. Side also has a large number of self-catering apartments, which are good value for couples or small families who want an alternative to all inclusive holidays. Other accommodation options include small boutique hotels and luxury holiday rentals.

Attractions & Events

Side is surrounded by beaches on every side, so beach life is a prominent feature of every holiday at this resort. Side's calm waters are ideal for swimming and for families with young children. The western beaches are more developed and have every amenity that tourists may need, including a vast array of beachfront cafes and restaurants serving traditional Turkish fare. By contrast, the eastern beaches are wilder and quieter. Here, golden sand beaches are fringed by imposing dunes and archaeological ruins. If you come early in the morning you may even have the beach all to yourself! Those who prefer a more active holiday have plenty of options to choose from. Glass-bottom boat trips can be easily arranged in town, and there are many outlets offering watersports adventures like parasailing, paragliding, jet skiing, and diving. The summer evenings are the perfect time to stroll around Side's town centre in search of souvenirs and traditional handicrafts. The streets are closed to traffic after sunset and the atmosphere is lively until midnight. The area surrounding Side is an attraction in its own right, as the Turkish Mediterranean is a natural paradise that presents countless exploration opportunities. Visiting the Manavgat waterfalls is highly recommended. River cruises can also be arranged in the Manavgat area, which is only 5 miles north of Side. One must not forget that Side has one of the most impressive archaeological complexes in southern Europe. The Greek amphitheatre is a popular venue for summer events, like the International Culture and Art Festival, which takes place every September. Another popular event is Side's Airshow, which is held for a couple of days in May.
