Eastern United States

Touring historic cities such as New York, Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Charleston is a great way to start holidays in the Eastern USA. Some of these are also port cities, including Charleston, Wilmington, Baltimore, New York and Philadelphia.

Many cruise lines now offer to take travellers sailing around the Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada and New England visiting the major cities of the Eastern USA, including Philadelphia, New York, Boston and Norfolk.

The eastern portion of the Unites States is made up of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. It also includes the New England states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut. This region is filled with cultural and historic attractions ranging from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall to Boston’s Old North Church and the White House in Washington, DC.

One of the most visited cities in the world is New York City. Holidays to the Eastern USA will no doubt include visits to Times Square, which is the heart of the theatre district, and Central Park, which is home to the mysterious Belvedere Castle. There is also the 1.5 million square feet Metropolitan Museum of Art to be discovered, as well as St. Patrick’s Cathedral; the largest Catholic cathedral in the United States.

If your holidays in the Eastern USA take you to Boston, you will be surrounded by a variety of museums. There are almost a dozen unique museums that offer exhibits of everything from fine art to sea life. While enjoying holidays in Boston, be sure to venture out on the open waters to explore some of the 34 islands in the area.

The 170-foot waterfall at Niagara Falls in New York State is a spectacular sight to see on holidays to the Eastern USA. Niagara Falls is the largest waterfall in the United States and remains a popular attraction.

West Virginia holidays should include a visit to the Organ Cave, which is the longest cave in the United States, extending more than 40 miles. This region is also known for the beauty of Cedar Creek State Park as well as the white water rafting on the River New and the River Gauley.

Climate

The eastern portion of the US generally has a pleasant climate due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. During the summer months of May to September, travellers on Eastern USA holidays can expect to experience very warm and sometimes humid daytime highs ranging from the mid 20s into the mid 30s C. The winter months from November to March are much cooler, occasionally dipping below freezing and will require warmer clothes for sightseeing activities.
