Holidays to Mauritius

Holidays in Mauritius take people to the southeast coast of the continent of Africa, to an island nation formally called the Republic of Mauritius. The main island of Mauritius and the islands of Cargados Carajos, Agalega and Rodrigues make up this island nation. Visitors to the region come from around the world, though Europeans favour this destination. The British and French influences of this country's past intermingle with African culture here, creating a Creole mix that is unique to this area. Visitors can explore the city of Port Louis, the capitol of the country, as well as other larger cities such as Beau Bassin, Rose Hill and Curepipe.

Many things make the island of Mauritius unique and worth visiting. It is the only natural home of the Dodo bird. The island is at the hottest part of the west coast of this continent, and the highest temperatures occur during the months of December to February.

Once you arrive for holidays to Mauritius, your first activity should be an exploration of the expansive waterfront area with its crystal blue water and sandy beaches. Take in the Grand Bay upon arrival. This is perhaps the best place for leisurely activities and shopping. You will also find the nightlife to be exceptional in this region, with various bars, nightclubs, restaurants and discos readily available throughout the evening. Pereybere is the largest public beach and is lined with shops and dining locations that make for a great daytime visit.

Once you settle in, holidays in Mauritius should include a trip to the Balaclava Ruins, which are the ruins of an old colonial estate. A tour of the village of Triolet Shivala is also highly recommended. This is home to the largest Hindu temple in Africa; it was built in 1819 in honour of the gods of Shiva, Vishnu and Krishna. For something more exotic, explore the Labourdonnais Orchards, where tropical fruit trees line the walkways and exotic flowers flourish. You can hike through the area or take a bike ride through it.

You may wish to visit the Caudan Waterfront, especially if you want to enjoy live entertainment, shopping and sailing opportunities. There are also modern amenities here, such as a movie theatre, arcades and numerous restaurants. You can arrange for a tour of the Moka Mountains on back of a quad bike or you can do so on horseback. You can visit a sugar mill here, as well as a rum distillery. Deep sea fishing is yet another activity to enjoy, as is a Jeep safari.

All of the equipment, gear and training you need to explore while on Mauritius holidays are available for hire. Take in the beauty of this location one step at a time, exploring each of the distinctive areas of this fascinating island nation. There is something in Mauritius for everyone.
